Urging Glasgow City Council to Rethink Cruel Plans to Fire and Rehire over 23,000 Staff

Glasgow City Council workers - workers who keep the city running - are facing the biggest fire and rehire scheme in British history.


I was proud to support the UK Government Bill that will make fire and rehire illegal. It is astonishing that weeks out from the ban coming into play, the SNP-led Glasgow City Council are threatening this egregious practice on its own workforce.


This bullying tactic will impact many of my constituents. I have written to Glasgow City Council's Chief Executive, Susanne Millar, asking her to rule out this cruel threat of fire and rehire and bring in ACAS to work with the trade unions and Glasgow City Council to find a fair settlement.
