Privacy Policy — Maureen Burke MP
Last updated: 24 August 2026
Your privacy matters to me. It is the policy of the Office of Maureen Burke MP to respect your privacy and to comply with UK data protection law in relation to any personal information collected about you through this website, maureenburke.co.uk, and through other ways you may contact my office.
"Personal information" means any information that could be used to identify you - for example your name, address, email, or phone number.
If this site links to other websites, please note that those sites have their own privacy practices. Once you leave this site, this policy no longer applies.
1. Who is responsible for your information
For the personal data described in this policy, I, Maureen Burke MP, am the Data Controller. My office staff act as data processors on my behalf. This policy uses "we" and "our" to refer to me and the staff who support my parliamentary and constituency work.
2. Information we collect
We collect two kinds of information:
Information you give us directly:
For example, when you contact us with an enquiry or a casework request. This may include your name, email address, and phone number.
Information collected automatically - when you visit the site, our web server may automatically log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, and the time and date of your visit. This helps us understand how the site is used and keep it working properly. It is not usually enough on its own to identify you personally.
3. Why we collect and use your information
We only collect and use personal information where we have a good reason to do so, and only as much as is reasonably necessary. We use it to:
respond to enquiries and correspondence you send us
take up casework on your behalf where you have asked for our help
send you updates you have asked to receive
4. Our legal basis for processing your information
Under UK GDPR, we rely on one or more of the following grounds:
Consent - where you have agreed to us using your information for a specific purpose, such as signing up to a newsletter. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
Public task - where processing is necessary for carrying out my parliamentary and constituency duties.
Legitimate interests - where it is reasonably necessary for us to communicate with you or improve our service, and this does not override your rights.
Legal obligation - where we are required to use or retain information by law.
5. Who we may share your information with
To take up casework on your behalf, it may be necessary to share the details you provide with relevant third parties, such as government departments, local authorities, or other public bodies. We only share as much information as is needed to progress your case.
We do not sell your personal information, and we will not share it with any other organisation without your consent, except where we are required to by law.
6. Cookies
Our website may use a small number of cookies to help it run properly and, where you consent, to give us basic anonymised statistics on how the site is used. You can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings.
7. International transfers
Information is stored and processed in the United Kingdom. If any service provider we use stores or processes information outside the UK, we will make sure appropriate safeguards are in place in line with UK GDPR.
8. How long we keep your information
We only keep personal information for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Casework and enquiry details are generally kept only for as long as needed to resolve the matter, plus a short period afterwards in case you contact us again about the same issue. After that, information is deleted or anonymised, unless we are required to keep it for a legal or regulatory reason.
9. Keeping your information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from loss, misuse, or unauthorised access. However, no method of storage or transmission over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure.
10. Your rights
You have the following rights over your personal information:
Right to be informed about how your data is collected and used
Right of access - you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you (we will respond within 30 days)
Right to rectification - you can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information
Right to erasure - you can ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances
Right to restrict processing - you can ask us to limit how we use your information in certain circumstances
Right to object - you can object to processing based on our legitimate interests
Right to withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis for processing
Right to data portability, where technically feasible, for information you have given us directly
To exercise any of these rights, or if you have any concerns about how we handle your information, please contact us using the details below. We will investigate and respond in writing.
11. Complaints
